Birgitte Solem

Most recently, Birgitte performed in and co-wrote The Pigeon King at the Blyth Festival as part of their 2017 and 2018 seasons. The show’s next stop is the main stage of the National Arts Centre in 2020. She also co-produced and starred in Ayad Aktar’s award-winning play Disgraced as a Mirvish/Hope and Hell Theatre co-production, in Toronto at the Panasonic Theatre for two runs as well as the Citadel in Edmonton.

Other theatre credits include: Mr. New Year’s Eve (Blyth Festival), Mom’s the Word (Drayton/Magnus), The Rochdale Project (as a co-creator and actor at Theatre Passe Muraille), as well as numerous shows at the Blyth Festival, Great Canadian Theatre Company, National Arts Centre and Mysteriously Yours, where she was an actor and writer. On television she is recurring on The Handmaid’s Tale and recently appeared as Secretary of the Interior on Designated Survivor. She is also in Suicide Squad, Hacker, A Family Man and Population Zero. Birgitte has appeared in and voiced many commercials, and most recently the animated series Luna Around the World.
